BBC report today – (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8035241.stm )
Almost 19,000 people a year in the UK are diagnosed with cancer that could have been prevented if they were a healthy weight, an expert says.
Professor Martin Wiseman said if everyone had a body mass index (BMI) under 25 it would make a big dent in the incidence of cancer. Cancers of the breast, bowel, kidney, pancreas, oesophagus and womb lining are among those linked to obesity. Professor Wiseman is an adviser for the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF).
Overall, scientists estimate that about a third of the most common cancers could be prevented if people ate healthily, were physically active and maintained a healthy weight.

The message about obesity and the link to cancer and other disease is not new, but why is the message not making a difference?
There are many reasons why we get fat (or get cancer) - eating CRAP food (too many Carbohydrates, Refined foods, Additives, Pasteurised dairy), trans fatty, and poly unsaturated fats (eg. margarine), lack of sleep, ( read more here ), but for each person the root cause is individual to them, but can be categorised as chronic stress.
In my opinion it is impossible to split the body into parts – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual – and if any of these parts is stressed it will be expressed in the other. An example would be working chronically late hours or shift work, with disturbed sleep, not allowing the body to fully repair and rest, triggering the nervous system to release hormones to store fat as a means of sustaining energy in this stress state.
The body does not distinguish the source of the stress (diet, sleep, hydration, thoughts, breathing, movement) but only serves to protect you by storing excess energy or toxins away from your vital organs, as an emergency process. When the stress becomes chronic, fat accumulates and the body is not given any opportunity to burn it off (as the emergency continues) and this is when obesity can occur.
If you are someone is worried about obesity, then I would recommend you first call would be to read through the articles on my blog, buy a copy of How to eat move and be healthy – by Paul Chek, and if you still need help find a CHEK practitioner in your area, or give me a call (we can help over the phone and via email).
