Helping You to Help Yourself

What I love about my work is the individuality of each client, what I mean by that is their differing priorities in life, their outlook, how they make me feel, what they perceive as good health or happiness, in short – how they choose to live and spend their time on earth.

It may sound ethereal, but I believe these questions form the very basis of who we all are – and this is expressed physically, just as much as emotionally, mentally, or spiritually.

One of the first things I do when I see any client is have a look at their body – how they stand, how they move, what area(s) hurt, and ask a lot of questions about their history going right back to birth.

It still amazes me, how pain – physical, emotional, mental, spiritual can be stored in the body even 60,70,80 years after that pain occurred,  and still cause problems that on the surface look totally unconnected.

I believe we spend our lives making choices, not to do one thing in place of choosing another way, this then shapes our life, our values, our friends, even where we end up at any given time! For me this is what makes life exciting, but at the same time places the responsibility for our own lives firmly with us.

This responsibility and ability to choose, is what I both teach my clients and continue to learn to practice myself.

For example, Disease – When we take responsibility for our own lives, we don’t wait for someone to tell us we are sick and need drugs, but we tune into what our bodies are telling us, and get help when we need it, we learn how to build a balance (ease) within the 120 trillion cells that make up our body.  This self empowerment becomes a gift not only for ourselves, but for our family, our friends and anyone we communicate with. Our bodies do not lie, and they speak our emotions, mind, physical health and our spirit, and a healthy body will broadcast the message that responsibility for self is freedom from disease, and the more of us who embrace this, the more people will benefit.

As an introduction to these concepts and how to observe what our bodies are saying, I am running a weekend course June 27/28 for therapists with a basic knowledge of anatomy.

The course is called ‘assess don’t guess’ and it involves observations of posture and movement, asking the right questions to identify the etiology of an individual’s problems, and the help they need.  It will be a hands-on course, working with a partner observing each other, under the guidance of three tutors.
